Negative ion photoelectron spectroscopy of copper hydrides
We report photoelectron imaging spectra of CuH and CuH 2 and their deuterated analogs. The CuH photoelectron spectrum exhibits transitions to the ground (X R) and lowest excited triplet (a R) and singlet (A R) states, with EA(CuH) 0.444(6) eV. The photoelectron spectrum of linear X Rg HCuH is dominated by a transition to the linear excited A Rg state with a 2.853 eV binding energy. It is accomp...
متن کاملPhotoelectron Spectroscopy of the Trimethylenemethane Negative Ion
The photoelectron spectrum of the trimethylenemethane (TMM) negative ion is described. The electron affinity of TMM is found from the spectrum to be 0.431 6 0.006 eV, and the energy difference between the X̃ A9 2 and b̃ A1 states of TMM is determined to be 16.1 6 0.2 kcal/mol. The energy difference between the lowest energy triplet and singlet states is estimated to be 13–16 kcal/mol. The enthalp...
متن کاملStudy of HCO2 and DCO2 by negative ion photoelectron spectroscopy
Photoelectron spectra of HCO2 2 and DCO2 2 at 299 nm, 266 nm, and 213 nm are reported. Photodetachment accesses the A1 , B2 , and A2 states of the formlyoxyl radical, HCO2. The A1 state is assigned as the HCO2 ground state, although it is nearly degenerate with the B2 state ~T050.027 eV!, and the A2 state lies at T050.536 eV. The electron affinity of HCO2 is 3.49860.015 eV. The spectra show par...
متن کاملElectronic states of the quasilinear molecule propargylene (HCCCH) from negative ion photoelectron spectroscopy.
We use gas-phase negative ion photoelectron spectroscopy to study the quasilinear carbene propargylene, HCCCH, and its isotopologue DCCCD. Photodetachment from HCCCH– affords the X̃(3B) ground state of HCCCH and its ã(1A), b̃ (1B), d̃(1A2), and B̃(3A2) excited states. Extended, negatively anharmonic vibrational progressions in the X̃(3B) ground state and the open-shell singlet b̃ (1B) state arise fro...
متن کاملNegative Ion Photoelectron Spectroscopy Studies of Organic Reactive Intermediates
Nearly 100 years ago, Moses Gomberg introduced the scientific community to the study of organic radicals,1 concluding this classic manuscript with the comment that, “This work will be continued and I wish to reserve the field for myself.” Gomberg’s studies of triphenylmethyl radical were only the beginning of intense research into the properties of the newly discovered trivalent carbon, and des...
